About this postcard

The North Portico of the White House is shown behind a spraying fountain and a bed of flowers, with trees framing the building and a flag flying above the pediment. The Executive Mansion's north front, with its four-columned portico, was rebuilt in its present classical form after the British burned the house in 1814; the north entrance has long served as the ceremonial door for arriving heads of state. The Rotograph Company of New York, which issued this card, was a prolific publisher of view postcards in the first decade of the twentieth century.
