About this postcard
A view north along Third Street from its corner with Felix Street in St. Joseph, Missouri, with commercial blocks lining both sides, striped awnings over the sidewalks, a Western Union telegraph office on the right, and a shop advertising trunks, traveling bags and suit cases on the left. Pedestrians cross the wide dirt-paved street while a horse-drawn wagon stands at the right curb and telegraph poles and wires cross the sky. St. Joseph, on the Missouri River, was in this era a major railroad and wholesale center and the starting point of the 1860 Pony Express.
