A two-story yellow clapboard house with dark green shutters, a pedimented doorway, and two chimneys, seen from a street corner with shrubs and trees around it. The house was the boyhood home of Thomas Bailey Aldrich (1836-1907), the poet, novelist, and Atlantic Monthly editor whose novel The Story of a Bad Boy drew on his Portsmouth youth; the book's Rivermouth is a thinly disguised version of the city. The house on Court Street is preserved as a historic house museum associated with Strawbery Banke.
