About this postcard
View across Thomas Circle, the circular park at the intersection of Massachusetts, Vermont and Rhode Island Avenues in Washington, D.C., with its central equestrian statue of Major General George Henry Thomas (dedicated 1879, sculpted by John Quincy Adams Ward) surrounded by flower beds and lawn. Behind the circle rises Luther Place Memorial Church, the red sandstone Gothic Revival church completed in 1873, and a streetcar and horse-drawn carriages share the roadways. The circle was laid out in the 1870s as part of the L'Enfant plan's reservations and became a fashionable residential corner of the city.
