Three small children sit on a large crimson heart. A girl in a pink dress holds a sprig of blossoms, a boy in a vest raises a green paper hat, and a girl in blue wears a floral wreath in her hair. Pink and white dog roses and gold-outlined leaves frame the heart in a trellis pattern. Heavily embossed, gold-trimmed Valentines printed in Germany were widely sold in the United States in the early 1900s, and sentimental juvenile figures like these were a common holiday motif.
Heavy gold-embossed relief outlining the heart, flowers and figures; light surface wear and a few small scuffs; small signature at lower right (appears to read "M. E. La.").
Postmark: BACK BAY STATION, FEB 13 1905 (flag cancel). Undivided back, embossed floral stock, 1¢ Franklin adhesive stamp. Handwritten sender name and date notation "Miss Gleason Feb. 15 1905" at lower right. Light edge/corner wear.
