A mountain valley in Colorado where the same narrow-gauge line appears at three levels. A steam train and its string of cars climb the upper grade, while other track loops below along the creek. The printed caption identifies the line as the F. & C. C. Ry., the Florence & Cripple Creek Railroad, a short line completed in 1894 to serve the Cripple Creek gold district.
Its route through Phantom Canyon twisted back on itself at several elevations, making the grade a common subject for Colorado railroad views.
