Three elevations of track on the Florence & Cripple Creek Railway, Colorado, circa 1920

About this postcard
A tinted view of a mountain valley in Colorado where the same narrow-gauge line appears at three different levels, with a steam train and its string of cars climbing the upper grade while other track loops below along the creek. The printed caption names the line as the F. & C. C. Ry. — the Florence & Cripple Creek Railroad, a Colorado short line completed in 1894 to serve the Cripple Creek gold district. Its twisting grade through Phantom Canyon, where the track doubled back on itself at several elevations, was one of the most photographed railroad scenes in the state.
