About this postcard
Three pink carnations with fringed petals rise on long green stems against a pale blue-green ground, with a four-line verse printed in a small scroll at the lower left. The card was sent to Emma Stahl in Chaseburg, Wisconsin, and the note carries ordinary family news: Pa has gone to Ohio, Julius is husking corn, and the weather is cold. Chaseburg is a small village in Vernon County in southwestern Wisconsin, farm country where the fall corn harvest shaped the seasonal work. Carnations were a common sentimental motif on early twentieth-century greeting cards, associated with admiration and affection.
