Three swallows above a cottage, Best Wishes, Amelia, VA, 1908

Card type
Lithograph

About this postcard

Three swallows perch on a wire above a white cottage with a red roof. Large pansies and red flowers fill the foreground, and an envelope marked "Best Wishes" and "Papa" rests among the blooms. The floral and bird motifs were common in early twentieth-century greeting cards, and the cottage suggests a quiet domestic scene. The Christmas Eve postmark from Amelia, Virginia, gives the general greeting a holiday-season timing, while the word "Papa" adds a family note.
