About this postcard
The photograph shows a threshing floor near Salonica, the Greek port city now called Thessaloniki. Sacks and a large pan are piled beside a brush arbor, with an automobile parked behind. A horse stands at right, held by a person at its lead, while another person sits on the ground. The caption names Mr. Georgiades as driving the farm automobile and credits Mrs. C. House with taking the picture. Threshing floors were common in rural Greece, where grain was separated by animal power. The automobile in the background places the scene in the early 20th century, when motor vehicles were still uncommon in country districts.
