Thru the Pines, Lake Tahoe Lake Tahoe lies in the crest of the Sierra Nevada mountains, partly in California and partly in Nevada. It is 23 miles long and about 12 miles wide, and is 6250 feet above sea level. Only one other lake in the world, above this elevation is larger. It is one of the country's most beautiful lakes—water as blue as sapphire.
