About this postcard

A long, rustic lodge with steep shingled roofs and a tall central chimney stands among snow-covered evergreens below the snowy shoulder of Mount Hood. Ski tracks and footprints cross the open snow in the foreground. Timberline Lodge was built in the 1930s as a federal Works Progress Administration project, raised from local stone and hand-worked timber, and dedicated in 1937. Its design blends Alpine chalet forms with Northwest materials, and Oregon artisans contributed the carved woodwork, ironwork, and woven textiles that fill the interior. The site sits near 6,000 feet on the mountain's south slope, where snow lingers into summer and made the lodge a year-round ski destination.
