Time Saver Card checklist with ocean wave, Cleveland, OH, 1939

About this postcard

The card is a novelty "Time Saver Card," printed with a checklist of phrases for the sender to mark and the motto "Time is Money." A color view of a breaking ocean wave, seagulls, and a sunset sky fills the center. Dolores writes to friends in Cleveland as they prepare to leave for Detroit, hoping they will like living there but still prefer Cleveland. She describes her own tent camping in the open country, jokes that she is "getting black" in the sun and they may not recognize her, and admits that tent life is fun but spooky at night. Tent camping was a popular summer escape for city dwellers in the late 1930s.

Hello Friends, Hope to see you before you leave for Detroit. Glad to hear you are back again. Hope you like living in Detroit but like coming to Cleveland better. I am camping and it is wonderful out in the open country. Getting black and you probably won't know me when you see me. It's fun living in a tent but spooky at night. Your friend, Dolores Pauline
