The card's face is the phrase "To My Pet" in raised gold lettering, with small blossom sprigs on a mottled blue-green ground. It was mailed from Bend, Oregon, to Miss Berdina Reeder at Summer Lake in Lake County, and signed "from Daddy." The pet name and the father's signature give it the character of an affectionate family note. In 1910 Bend was a small central Oregon town, while Summer Lake was a remote ranching settlement in the high desert. The card carries that ordinary kind of long-distance family greeting across a thinly settled part of the state.
Heavy gold embossing in relief on a printed marbled blue-green background; uneven/deckled edges and light corner wear; divided-back stock.
Postmark: BEND OREG. FEB 7 1910 8 PM. Divided-back "POST CARD" with embossed gilt floral front; 1¢ green Franklin adhesive stamp; light edge/corner wear, faint pencil dealer price code 700 at top right corner.
