The wet dock at Norfolk Navy Yard holds a large white and orange-hulled vessel at left and several dark torpedo boats at right, with industrial buildings along the waterfront. The message is headed U.S.S. Olympia and reports the ship anchored in Hampton Roads on a summer cruise, with the next stop listed as New London, Conn. N.H., likely a slip for New London, Conn. Olympia was by then a veteran of the 1898 Battle of Manila Bay, where she served as Dewey's flagship.
