A broad unpaved road runs straight away from the viewer beneath a dense canopy of tall shade trees. A red barn-like building and white-trimmed cottages stand on the left, and a grassy bank with short posts borders the right. The scene is Craigville, a summer resort village on the south shore of Cape Cod in Barnstable, Massachusetts, developed in the 1870s around a camp-meeting ground. Whitewashed tree trunks and simple wooden posts along the road fit the cottage communities that grew up around such camp meetings.
Thin white border; light corner and edge wear; small red monogram mark at lower left; grainy lithographic texture.
