About this postcard

A broad, unpaved road runs straight away from the viewer beneath a dense canopy of tall shade trees, with a red barn-like building and white-trimmed cottages on the left and a grassy bank with short posts on the right. The printed caption names the scene as a view in Craigville, a summer resort village on the south shore of Cape Cod in the town of Barnstable, Massachusetts, developed in the 1870s around a camp-meeting ground. The whitewashed tree trunks and simple wooden posts along the road are typical of such Victorian-era Cape Cod cottage communities.
