Tryon Peak from Godshaw Hill, Tryon, NC, circa 1934

About this postcard

Looking across a wooded valley, the broad green mass of Tryon Peak rises under a pink-and-blue sunset sky, with overhanging branches framing the view. In the foreground, two riders on horseback, one on a white horse and one on a brown horse, pause on a gravel drive beside a red-roofed pavilion and flowering shrubs. The caption places the vantage on Godshaw Hill, looking toward Tryon Peak. Tryon, a Polk County town in western North Carolina, became a resort and equestrian community by the early 20th century; the surrounding Blue Ridge foothills drew visitors for views and mild climate.
