Tunnel in Poudre Canyon, Colorado, circa 1940

Card type

About this postcard

A view up the Cache la Poudre River toward a small tunnel portal cut through the red sandstone cliffs of Poudre Canyon in northern Colorado. The river, broken by boulders and gravel bars, fills the foreground, with pine trees and wildflowers along the banks and rounded green-grey mountains rising beyond the canyon walls. The canyon road and its tunnel were part of the route into the Front Range west of Fort Collins, a popular scenic drive and fishing destination promoted on mid-century postcards.
