About this postcard
Two massive domed stalagmites, identified in the caption as Twin Domes and Giant Stalagmites, rise from the floor of the Big Room at Carlsbad Cavern. Fluted stone columns and hanging stalactites fill the chamber around them, and a small white label is attached to one formation. The caption gives the Big Room as nearly 4,000 feet long, 625 feet wide, and 350 feet high at its arched ceiling. Carlsbad Caverns became a national park in 1930, and the Big Room is one of the largest cave chambers in North America. Its scale made the caverns a notable destination in southeastern New Mexico for travelers touring the Southwest. The caption's "Carlsbad Cavern National Park" is today Carlsbad Caverns National Park.
