Two anglers fishing in a mountain stream, Great Smoky Mountain National Park, circa 1934

About this postcard

Two men in hats and outdoor jackets stand among large boulders in a clear, fast-flowing mountain stream, fishing rods in hand, with autumn-tinted hardwoods and a distant blue ridge behind them. Their hats and heavy jackets suit the cool, damp high country of the southern Appalachians. The setting is the Great Smoky Mountains, the parkland along the Tennessee-North Carolina line established in 1934 and dedicated in 1940. Sport fishing for brook trout and stocked rainbow trout in the park's cold streams was a popular visitor pastime.
