Two horses rear and plunge through a cloud of dust in a dry, brush-dotted landscape under white cumulus clouds. A pale horse fills the foreground, with a darker brown horse behind it. The printed caption gives the title as "DESERT CONQUEST" and credits the image to an oil painting by L. H. "Dude" Larsen, a cowboy artist and poet. Larsen published from Kanab, Utah, in the ranching country of southern Utah, and the scene presents a western horse subject in a painterly style.
Coarse halftone dot screen visible throughout; no white border; no printed text on front; light edge wear and a small blemish at lower left.
No postmark — unmailed, no stamp affixed. Divided-back card with copyright notice: "COPYRIGHT 1946 BY L. H. LARSEN / NO PART OF THIS PICTURE MAY BE REPRODUCED IN ANY FORM WITHOUT PERMISSION IN WRITING FROM THE ARTIST"; textured stock; pencil notation "Greybull Wyoming / Aug 22 - 1948" in the message panel and handwritten "Minnie" inside the empty stamp box; light corner/edge wear.
