The view looks across the semicircular floor of the U.S. House of Representatives chamber in the Capitol. Rows of small wooden desks and green upholstered chairs curve toward the raised rostrum, while tiered public galleries follow the curved walls above and a paneled skylight ceiling spans the room. In 1910 the House met in this chamber, and visitors could watch proceedings from the galleries. The sender's note places her in Washington for a visit that included the Corcoran Art Gallery.
