About this postcard

A sepia aerial view from off the starboard bow shows the U.S.N.S. General E. D. Patrick steaming through open water. The transport's two tall stacks, lifeboats, masts, and rigging stand out against the sky, and personnel crowd the decks. The ship's name is lettered along the hull. The USNS prefix identifies a civilian-crewed naval ship, and the General E. D. Patrick served with the Military Sea Transportation Service in the postwar years, carrying military personnel and dependents. It was named for Maj. Gen. Edwin D. Patrick, who was killed in the Philippines in 1945.
