About this postcard
A circular floral or seed design on the lawn of the U.S. Naval Training Station at Great Lakes, Illinois, spells out "AMERICAS" above and "SECURITY" below around a central anchor. A large brick building and a flagpole with the American flag stand behind the display. Great Lakes was one of the Navy's principal recruit training centers during World War II. The sender, a sailor in radio school in Chicago, writes to a friend in Vermont about the food, his locker, and his first liberty, calling Chicago "a Navy man's city."
