The view shows a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier in profile on open water, its flat flight deck and island superstructure set against a sunset sky of orange, yellow, and blue with scattered clouds. The printed caption names it only as "An Aircraft Carrier of the U. S. Navy," leaving the ship unidentified. By the 1930s, carriers with this silhouette were becoming a central part of American naval aviation, and color-tinted naval views were common collectibles.
