About this postcard
A single-story white stucco post office with a red tile roof, arched multi-pane windows and a central arched entrance bearing the carved inscription "UNITED STATES POST OFFICE," with an American flag flying from a pole above the doorway and a palm and shade tree on the lawn. McAllen, in Hidalgo County in the lower Rio Grande Valley, grew rapidly in the early 20th century as an agricultural and irrigation center, and its federal post office buildings of the 1930s were typically designed in the Spanish Colonial Revival style seen here. The linen-texture printing and the "8A-H677" job number are characteristic of Curt Teich & Co. cards of the late 1930s and 1940s.
