About this postcard
The United States Treasury Building fills the frame, its long colonnaded facade and pedimented center facing Pennsylvania Avenue. The Washington Monument rises in the distance at the left, and flags fly from the Treasury roof. In the street below, electric streetcars, open automobiles, and pedestrians share the roadway, with a small park and fountain at the right. The Treasury's Neoclassical building was begun in 1836 under Robert Mills and expanded through the 19th century; the Washington Monument was completed in 1884. The sender's note reports a woman seen walking an Airedale in the White House grounds, a small personal detail from a spring visit to Washington.
