About this postcard

A moonlit panoramic view of the U.S. Veterans' Administration hospital complex in Columbia, South Carolina, with its long red-brick Georgian Revival wards and administration buildings, lit windows, and a white cupola glowing against a cloudy night sky; a curving drive sweeps across the lawn in the foreground. The Columbia facility was one of the Veterans Administration hospitals built in the years after the First World War to care for returning soldiers, and it remains in service today as the Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center. Cards like this were sold in the 1930s and 1940s to show off the modern institutional campus.
