A bearded older man in a flat cap and overalls sits outdoors holding a large dark jug. He is identified as Uncle Slug, 'The Drinking Uncle,' a comic local character from Van Buren, Arkansas. The caption also calls Van Buren the home of Bob Burns, the Arkansas humorist and radio comedian known for his rustic persona and the homemade bazooka. The portrait plays on the stock figure of the hard-drinking country uncle, a familiar joke in popular postcard humor.
