About this postcard
The stone facade of the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas, fills the view under a colorful sky, with its carved entrance and curved parapet. Six flags fly above and beside the building, and flowering shrubs and a palm tree stand in the foreground. The title "Under Six Flags" lists French, Spanish, Mexican, Texas, Confederate, and United States rule, a popular shorthand for the city's layered past. The Alamo began as a Spanish mission and became a battlefield in 1836; by the 1930s it was a landmark for tourists. A traveler's note mentions warm weather and flowers already in bloom, a small glimpse of San Antonio in early spring.
