About this postcard
A black-and-white view of the Union Depot in Indianapolis, Indiana, a massive brick and stone building with a tall clock tower and rows of arched windows. Streetcar tracks run across the foreground, where local trolley traffic met the intercity trains inside. Indianapolis opened the country's first union station in 1853, and the Romanesque building shown here replaced it in 1888, giving the city a landmark clock tower and a single hall where competing railroads shared tracks and passengers changed trains. The card was mailed from Noblesville on December 29, 1905, to a friend in Danville, Illinois, thanking her for a present that had arrived two days earlier and for a letter the day before.
