Union Station, Portland, Oregon, circa 1940

About this postcard

A color view of Portland's Union Station, a long red-brick Renaissance-style terminal with green roofs, a tall clock tower topped by a flagpole flying the American flag, and a columned loggia along the ground floor; automobiles of 1930s–40s vintage are parked on the broad plaza in front. Union Station was designed by architect Henry Van Brunt and opened in 1896, its clock tower modeled on Italian campanile forms, and it remains the city's principal intercity rail terminal. The card's linen-era coloring and the cars suggest a date around 1940.
