About this postcard
The card shows the long neoclassical south front of the United States Treasury Building in Washington, D.C., with its colonnade of Ionic columns, granite facade, and flags flying from poles above the roofline; a strip of lawn and a broad unpaved street fill the foreground. The Treasury's central wing was designed by Robert Mills and built in the 1830s–40s, with later wings extending the structure through the 1860s. It stands immediately east of the White House and remains the oldest departmental building in the capital still used for its original purpose.
