About this postcard

A color view of the massive United States Treasury Building on Pennsylvania Avenue, its long colonnaded granite facade topped by flags, with the Washington Monument rising at the left and streetcars, carriages and early automobiles on the street below. The Treasury's central and east wings were built from 1836 onward to designs by Robert Mills, and the building remains the oldest departmental building in Washington, D.C. The obelisk in the distance, begun in 1848 and finally completed in 1884, stands in line with the Treasury's south front.
