A wide gravel drive leads between rows of white-walled, red-roofed collegiate buildings toward a central arched gateway, with lawns and young trees in the foreground. The card's own caption identifies the scene as the University of Chicago, the institution founded in 1890 with John D. Rockefeller's support in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. Its early quadrangles were built in a Gothic-revival style of limestone with red tile roofs, matching the appearance of the halls shown here.
