About this postcard

A festive outdoor procession in Valencia: a woman in a light dress is carried in a litter by bearers, accompanied by men in broad-brimmed hats and period costume. Palm trees and an ornate stone monument stand behind them. The scene comes from Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida's painting Valencia, part of his Provinces of Spain series. Sorolla (1863-1923), a Valencian painter known for scenes of local life and Mediterranean light, painted the series in the 1910s for the Hispanic Society of America, which later reproduced the works for visitors.
