Vesper Service, Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles, CA, circa 1929

Card type
Real photo

About this postcard

A large crowd fills the seats of the Hollywood Bowl for a Vesper Service. A chorus and orchestra sit on stage beneath the band shell, and automobiles are parked on the hillside behind the amphitheater. The Bowl opened in 1922 in a natural hollow in the Hollywood Hills and became a setting for large outdoor concerts and services. The rows of parked cars show how audiences reached the venue in the early auto age.
