About this postcard
An elevated view looks down on the sprawling white hospital complex of Fort Miley, with its central tower, red-roofed outbuildings and a circular flower-bed drive, set in green hills above the water; a lighthouse on a rock and a steamer appear in the blue expanse beyond, with the Marin headlands rising in the distance. The card names the site as the Veterans' Hospital at Fort Miley, overlooking the Golden Gate. Fort Miley, a U.S. Army coastal defense post on the western edge of San Francisco, became the site of a large Veterans Administration hospital complex in the 1930s, and the lighthouse offshore is the Point Bonita Light on the Marin County side of the Golden Gate.
