About this postcard

The Vicksburg Hotel stands on a street corner, a tall red-brick building with white trim and arched ground-floor windows. Several period automobiles are parked along the curb, and a few pedestrians are visible on the sidewalk. The corner setting and parked cars place the hotel in a downtown commercial district of the early automobile age. The sender's note gives the scene a personal angle. A traveler writes that he is at Vicksburg for the night, that the hotel "looks about the same," and that "things haven't changed a bit around here"; he plans to see old friends before leaving the next day. The note reads like a return visit to a familiar river town.
