About this postcard
The view looks across Montreal Harbour to Victoria Pier, with steamships docked along the quay beside a long transit shed. A clock tower and a bridge appear in the distance. Victoria Pier formed a basin at the foot of St. Mary's Current on the St. Lawrence River and was part of Montreal's ocean-going harbour. Its docks served Canada Steamship Lines' St. Lawrence cruise boats. In the late 1920s Montreal was a leading grain port and the second-largest seaport on the continent after New York, with concrete piers, freight sheds, grain elevators, and a terminal railroad serving the waterfront.
