About this postcard
An elevated view looking east from the tower of the Center Methodist Episcopal Church over the rooftops of Provincetown toward the beach, long timber wharves and the broad harbor dotted with small boats. The card's own caption identifies the town as the First Landing Place of the Pilgrims, Nov. 11, 1620 (Old Style) — the date the Mayflower's company came ashore at what is now Provincetown Harbor before sailing on to Plymouth. The dense waterfront of wharves and fish houses reflects Provincetown's long reliance on the cod fishery and maritime trade at the tip of Cape Cod.
