About this postcard
The granite crags of the Bottomless Pit, a deep gorge cut into the north slope of Pikes Peak, seen from the summit area, with distant mountain ridges and a pale sky beyond. Warm brown and pink rock tones stand out against patches of snow in the foreground. By the time this view was printed, tourists climbed the mountain by carriage road or by the Manitou and Pike's Peak cog railway, and summit views like this one were sold as souvenirs of the trip. The pit was among the landmarks pointed out to visitors along the way.
