About this postcard
The view looks down a curving mountain road framed by massive granite outcrops, with a dense pine forest and the rounded summit of Harney Peak on the horizon; a rustic wooden sign at right reads "VIEW OF HARNEY PEAK ALT. 7242 FT." Harney Peak, in the Black Hills of South Dakota, is the state's highest point and was long known by the Lakota as Hinhan Kaga; the Mount Rushmore Highway was built in the 1930s to carry visitors to the nearby memorial. The card's linen texture and Curt Teich production code date it to the late 1930sā1940s.
