Visitors among stalactites and stalagmites in a cavern, circa 1910

About this postcard

A guided group of sightseers stands on a rocky floor beneath a dense ceiling of hanging stalactites, with large banded stalagmite columns rising at the right. Several figures wear hats and one carries a bright red wrap or flag, giving a sense of scale against the towering formations. Tinted cave interiors of this kind were popular souvenirs of the great American show caves of the early twentieth century.
