About this postcard
The card pictures the W. F. Taubel Knitting Mills in Shamokin, Pennsylvania: a long five-story brick mill block with rows of arched windows, a tall square tower at the left, and a water tower and smaller brick buildings behind. A faint painted sign reading "TAUBEL KNITTING MILLS" appears on the upper facade. Shamokin, in Northumberland County, was a center of anthracite coal mining, and knitting and hosiery mills such as this one were among the town's principal manufactures in the early twentieth century.
