About this postcard

A waterfall drops roughly 242 feet into a steep, forested gorge, with a stone bridge spanning the stream at its base. The printed caption identifies the scene as Wahkeena Falls, Oregon, on the Columbia Highway. Wahkeena is one of the cascades along the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge. The Historic Columbia River Highway, completed in 1916, was built as a scenic road past these falls, and its stone bridges and masonry guardrails became part of the route's appeal.
