About this postcard
The picture shows a metal-railed stairway and walkway climbing through the dark, dripping interior of a commercial show cave, with pale flowstone and stalactite formations coating the walls and ceiling. The card's own caption identifies it as the walk leading to the Stalactite Room in Niagara Cave, on the Iowa-Minnesota line near Harmony, Minnesota. Niagara Cave was opened as a commercial attraction in the early 1930s after being discovered by local farmers, and its cool interior and large subterranean chambers made it a popular roadside stop in the Upper Midwest.
