About this postcard

A long, low barn with a stone foundation and a continuous band of small windows under the eaves stands in a grassy meadow backed by pines. The barn belonged to the Walker-Gordon farms in Charles River Village, a small village on the Charles River in Dover, Massachusetts. Walker-Gordon farms were known in the early 20th century for certified and modified milk produced under sanitary conditions, and their large, well-ventilated barns housed dairy herds. The long form and window band are consistent with the emphasis on ventilation and light in sanitary dairy barns of the period.
