About this postcard
A view looking down Wall Street toward the Gothic brownstone spire of Trinity Church, framed by tall office buildings on both sides, with pedestrians, a horse-drawn wagon and an early motor vehicle in the street. Trinity Church, at the head of Wall Street where Broadway meets it, is the third church on the site, consecrated in 1846 to a design by Richard Upjohn; its 281-foot spire made it the tallest structure in the United States for decades and it remains a landmark of lower Manhattan. The surrounding streetscape of commercial blocks reflects Wall Street's growth as the nation's financial center in the early 20th century.
